Spirit Speak 101: Tingles, Twitches and Ear Pops... How Spirit Tries to Grab Our Attention

When I began communicating with the dead, I had to learn my fifth language, which I call Spirit Speak. The difference between this language and the other four that I speak is that it incorporates all of the senses. Tingles, twitches and ear pops are just one component of Spirit’s alphabet. Throughout my life I had trouble with electronics (TVs, radios, laptops and the like) malfunctioning in my presence, but the first physical sign from the Spirit World that I could not ignore was my head tingling. It felt like a very persistent and focused static electricity. This started occurring shortly after another psychic medium told me that I was more psychic than I realized, and that I would be receiving information via my crown chakra. I had no idea what a crown chakra was, but it wasn't long before the very top of my head -where a crown would be- started tingling. When I stopped what I was doing to concentrate on the sensation, the image of someone I knew to be deceased would appear, followed by a message. At that moment, everything that the other psychic had predicted fell into place and I realized that I was a medium as well.

Now that I am a professional psychic medium, I am shown similar things about my own clients and I enjoy every opportunity I get to clarify what is happening to them, just as that psychic mentor did for me. If you've ever experienced unexplained eye twitches, body tingling or strange auditory issues, chances are it is a Spirit Guide, Angel or someone else on the Other Side trying to get your attention. Before you go running to the doctor the next time you are plagued by random tingles and twitches, read this explanation of some of the physical sensations that Spirit uses to get our attention. You may find that you don't need your head (or any other parts) examined after all.

TINGLES
The telltale tingles described above aren't limited to your head. I have mentored highly intuitive folks who get these tingles on their cheeks, hands, feet and any other body part you can name. If you find that the tingling is always focused in the same area of your body, it is more than likely a Spirit Guide trying to get your attention. Take note each time this happens to see if you can pick up on any patterns. Does it always seem to occur when you are in need of guidance? Do you see, hear or feel anything else immediately following the sensation? If not, it may simply be their way of making their presence known and letting you know that you aren't alone in whatever you are facing.

Angel Tingles are another common phenomenon. I have had several people come to me wanting to understand why they have suddenly started noticing a strange tingling on their shoulder blades or down both sides of their back. My first question is always, "Do you have a strong connection with and/or often pray to Angels?" If the answer is yes, my next question is "If you had wings, where would they be attached?" This is always followed by a big Aha! moment because, once I explain it this way, they always feel like it should have been obvious to them that it was their Guardian Angel validating their presence.

In addition to these specific, localized tingles, you may have also experience full-body tingles, the chills or goosebumps. Unless you are standing in a sub-zero fridge, this usually signals the presence of Spirit, but can also serve as validation of what you believe to be true (your gut instinct, or what your intuition is telling you). I experience this regularly during readings and, eight times out of ten, the client feels it at the exact same time. We both take it as a strong sign that their loved ones are closer than ever. When I get a huge chill (the kind that makes your whole body jump), I know that Spirit is trying to align itself with me in order to use me as a more direct channel.

TWITCHES & PULSES
Eye twitches are probably the most common -and most overlooked or misunderstood- signals from Spirit. I cannot tell you the number of times my eye starts twitching just before a reading. When I ask whether or not the person I am reading for has been experiencing the same thing, the answer is, invariably, "Yes, and it's so annoying! Does it mean something?" YES. This is Spirit's way of saying, "Pay attention to your surroundings... LOOK around you!" In other words, stop what you are doing and look at your immediate surroundings to see what visual sign they are sending you. If you are near a clock, do you see double or triple digits? That would be your Guides or Angels signaling that you are on the right track or path, so keep up the good work! If you are watching tv or scrolling through social media, stop what you are doing and pay attention to what is on the screen. You will probably find something that is what most consider a coincidence, but is actually a synchronicity validating something you've been thinking or feeling. The first Father's Day after my dad passed away I was shopping on Amazon when my eye started twitching. My focus was redirected to the corner of the screen and an MP3 download suggestion had popped up. The song was my one of my dad's favorites... the one I had used at the end of his memorial slideshow. A warm feeling swept over me and I knew that my dad was checking in on this difficult milestone.

Pulses are like twitches that occur in other parts of your body and can indicate several things. My Guides and I have worked out a fairly elaborate system of signals that we use anytime they need my attention. It's not unlike the signals that fly back and forth between a pitcher and a catcher during a baseball game. If I feel a pulsing in my lower left calf, I know that my main Spirit Guide is on the job and providing wisdom. If I feel a pulse or "quickening" low in my abdomen, that signals truth and I instantly know that I can trust whatever I am hearing, seeing, thinking or feeling. If I feel pulsing in any other part of my body during a reading, I know to ask my client if they are having an issue (usually medical) in that area. The pulses can be a bit tricker to decipher, but they often provide valuable insights. It helps, once again, to maie a note of sny patterns. If the pulse is always in the same spot, it is probably a Guide’s “call sign”.

EAR POPS & OTHER EAR NOISE
The second way that my Guides made sure to get my attention was by making my ears pop. By now you may have guessed what this means... LISTEN UP! Early on in my development as a medium, my ears used to pop on a regular basis. I always knew to stop what I was doing and listen for guidance. That guidance sometimes came in the form of a verbal message that I would hear (in a voice other than my own), but more often than not it would come from an outside source. The next time your ears pop for no reason (assuming you have not made any obvious change in altitude), stop and listen to the TV, radio, or whatever sounds nature might be providing. I have one client who is a psychologist and her ears pop quite frequently when she is with patients. When this happens she feels reassured because she knows that she will say exactly what the patient needs to hear, even though she may have been struggling to find the right words just moments before.

If you experience changes in frequencies (higher pitched sounds that last for a few seconds to a few minutes), this usually means to be cautious or on high alert. Don't panic. This isn't necessarily the Spirit World's equivalent of a 9-1-1 call. This happens when I am driving too fast or daydreaming and about to miss my exit. I've also heard it when I've left the stove on or a candle burning upstairs. I don't freak out, I just try to gather my wits about me (get my mind back on the road) or backtrack and figure out what I may have overlooked in my environment. I appreciate the fact that someone Up There is on top of things when I'm not, which happens a lot since I'm ADD and in my own little world half of the time. In my experience, the higher the frequency, the higher the energy you are connecting with, so it's not surprising that Angels and the "higher ups" often use this signal to protect us.

Ringing, buzzing or incessant chirping can certainly signal tinnitus or another hearing issue, but if you've had your ears checked by an audiologist and it persists, there may be another explanation. Those who experience this auditory static are usually super sensitive (and receptive) to the energy of others, and their senses can sometimes become clogged up by excess or residual energy. In other words, they take on the energy of others (whether they are living or dead), and it can stick to them like dental plaque. When this happens, an energy dump is in order. Sometimes all it takes is a bit of grounding; other times, however, it takes some work. If you've ever tried getting dried Fruity Pebbles off of a cereal bowl, you know what I mean. Crusty energy can linger and stick to you like barnacles!? If you are experiencing this, or any other changes in your overall energy level, especially after being around a lot of people (or certain negative people), you are probably an empath (aka human energy sponge) and need to learn to recognize and separate your own energy from the energy of others.

If you can relate to any of what you just read and would like to understand more about the Spirit World and how it works, you would probably benefit from reading my book, Madame Medium: Unleash Your Inner Psychic with a French Teacher Turned Psychic Medium. In addition to explaining the connection between each of the psychic senses and how you may be receiving information from your Guides and loved ones, I devote an entire section to understanding chakras and energy balancing for empaths. I also offer many free resources on the Psychic Development Page of my website.
